What Is Ultrasound?
Our imaging department at Lake District hospital provides many types of diagnostic ultrasound studies to better serve our patients and surrounding communities. We utilize state of the art ultrasound equipment to provide top quality diagnostic exams. The use of penetrating sound waves as well as computer manipulation and enhancement aids in our ability to capture quality images. Our sonographers within the imaging department are all nationally credentialed to ensure high quality care for our patients.
What To Expect
Expect to be greeted by one of our friendly imaging department staff members prior to your examination. We will go over any sort of history pertinent to your examination as well as invite you to ask questions in regards to the exam.
The technologists will position you according to the type of study ordered from your physician prior to applying a clear gel to the area of interest. The technologist may have you change positions throughout as well as provide specific breathing instructions. These techniques will provide our technologists to gather the images needed to aid in diagnosis. The studies may range from 20 minutes to one hour in length of time.
Some of the studies we perform may require a preparation the morning of and/or up to the night before. These preparations may include nothing to eat or drink hours before, presenting a full bladder prior to examination, or withholding some medications beforehand.
After the study is completed the technologist will clean any remaining gel off of the body and potentially instruct you of any post procedure instructions before leaving. The study will be read by the radiologist and your ordering physician will have your results in a timely manner.
